What we bring into a relationship
We all bring our own history into a relationship – experiences from childhood, ways we learned to protect ourselves, family dynamics, unspoken stories and patterns that may have been passed down through generations.
In a constellation for couples, we create a space to look at what may be present underneath recurring conflicts, distance, misunderstandings or patterns that seem difficult to change.
The horses can become part of this process in their own way. Their presence can bring movement into the constellation, make dynamics more visible or simply invite us to slow down and notice what is happening – without judgement and without needing to explain everything in words.
What can we explore?
A constellation for couples can offer a space to explore what each of you brings into the relationship – and what may be influencing the way you meet each other today.
You might look at questions such as:
What patterns or experiences from your childhood are still present in your relationship?
What might you be carrying for your parents or families that doesn’t actually belong to you?
Are there unconscious loyalties or entanglements within your family systems that affect your relationship?
Is everyone in their right place within the family system – or has something become out of order?
What do you need from your partner – and what are you missing?
Are you expecting your partner to give you something you may have missed somewhere else?
What belongs to you, what belongs to your partner – and what belongs to your families?
Sometimes, simply seeing more clearly what each of you brings into the relationship can change the way you understand yourself, your partner and what happens between you.
How does a session work?
We begin with a conversation about what you would like to look at together and clarify the intention for the constellation.
From there, we work with elements of your relationship and family systems – and with the horses. You both remain part of the process, while the horses are free to approach, move away, stay close or simply observe.
There is no fixed script for what happens. We take it slowly and follow what becomes visible in the constellation.
A space for both of you
For me, it is important that a couples constellation is not about finding out who is right or wrong. Both partners bring their own experiences, loyalties, needs and ways of protecting themselves into a relationship.
The intention is to create a space in which both of you can be seen – and perhaps begin to see each other, and what happens between you, from a different perspective.
Do we need experience with horses?
Not at all. Neither of you needs any previous experience with horses – and you don’t need to feel completely comfortable around them from the beginning.
We take everything at your pace, and you never have to get closer to a horse than feels right for you. The horses are free to be part of the process in their own way, and there is nothing you need to do “right”.
